I have a bit of an issue with 'running' being the better option. The injuries I see joggers who don't maintain good form incur is problematic and limiting to their achieving their set goals.

Though I admit city cycling does little for the heart rate.

However as a 60-year-old cyclist doing 300km / week and a heart rate average of 145- 155 for 2 hours peaking in the high 170s, I burn far more than I could running badly for twenty minutes.

I think the impactinjury quotient against longevity of maintaining the activity, is the most vital fact in any training whether it be swimming, cycling, tennis or running.

As you say the most important aspect is to stick with it. I hope the family joins you on your runs!
