I see you and gaze in wonder.

a four month old baby girl gazes at a camera
The life I see at four months. Photo by author.

You are a wonder
emerging into a confused world.
Unguarded, open, and willing
despite the nightmares ravaging this life.

I think it is a wonder
you open your eyes in courage,
hope, and joy — they abound in your every breath
despite your struggles to understand.

I know it is a blessing to see
your smile twist your losses into lessons,
you fight — even when understanding leaves you weak.
You are never weak, you are a splendor.

I see embers of a resounding level of courage
defying unjust wounds, learning to heal,
you smile, a joy of resilience
even when it hurts.

Your bravery to embrace life
to believe in the light,
even when others cannot see it.
The gift of you is the sunset and sunrise.

Innocence is the purity flowing in your veins
May it pulse through and wash away the troubles of this world.

Thanks for reading. K
