Update on the running of my kickstarter for my next novel
I promised to run these articles as a means to inform other authors regarding Kickstarter as an avenue to help fund the costs entailed in self-publishing. In truth that was only a small portion of my intention behind the campaign.
I also wondered if it was an effective strategy for building the vaunted golden goose of marketing — an email list.
At this juncture, having launched six days ago, I would say my performance is far from the $40 million raised by almost 200,000 backers of Brandon Sanderson.
However it is not my intention to emulate him. Admire his achievement, yes, but that is as far as it goes. I am very grateful for those who have come on board with me. It is my job to stoke the fires of interest, as it is with any book, indie or trad published.

Please bear in mind that, my social media skills are not great, and my acceptance of the whole social media world is a struggle, but it’s building.
My Instagram and TikTok posts ( under kfarranauthor) are averaging a few hundred views so that is encouraging. I have not paid for any boosting or advertising.
