Increasingly endemic, the unknowing masses fester among us

Its forms are many and vary like flowers in a summer field
Yet it carries no joy or harmony, only pain does it yield
Endless as the black of night, it flourishes in dark corners of despair
As numb as stubborn winter’s ice, it thrives in those without care

Surviving in a vacuum, it fears to understand
It turns blind, blank, refuses every reprimand
Its name is ignorance and when allowed, in abundance will grow
In its highest form it rejects all fact which it does not want to know

It can be innocent, sadly nurtured by misfortune or lack
Though too it thrives on baseless intention to ground its attack
Ignorance is a disease and education is the strongest vaccine
But there are those who reject it, thriving on the obstinate, the obscene

They prance and parade their baseless beliefs clouded by limited vision
Subjecting others to their dangerous, flammable, venomous derision
Strangely we tolerate those whose ignorance feeds on baseless pride
We turn to flee their half-baked beliefs, searching a sanctuary to hide

In media it abounds and festers like a disease on show
Ignorance is a plague that rejects all it does not know.

In the age of information, ignorance is a choice. — Donald Miller

Thanks for thinking.
