I read you article with great interest and was initially tempted to explain my varied background as relates to the theme of your piece, but I find that explanation inappropriate.

The horror of this incident is not that Mr Arbery is a runner, nor that he is from a sport which in your country you see as a class/racial defining instrument. He is the victim, an innocent. The culprits are given only passing mention in your article. The two heathens who stalked this man are; A) racist and also B) believe that they have the right with their legal automatic weapons to administer justice as they see fit.

The crime is the sickness in a society that permits gun-toting louts to roam the streets or to show up at various legislatures armed to the teeth prepared to be judge, jury and executioner.

Malicious, abusive minds are not suitable in Georgia, Yugoslavia (former), Rwanda, Soweto, Afghanistan, Burma, nor Georgia (USA) the list is endless. The point is the society has the malaise, not the sport.

My two cents. I admire your voice.
