I am sorry to hear of your frustrations with finding editing work. Might I suggest starting as a beta reader. I use three to five employed beta readers who act in a semi editorial capacity. They are marvelous and worth every penny I pay. They also offer full editing services after the beta reading service. I found them through Fiverr after a lot of hit and miss attempts. They also have their own web services but I discovered them on Fiverr . It may serve as a platform from which to start and build your portfolio.
