I am a Canadian by choice, not by virtue of place of birth. I do not reside in Canada full time, and haven't for over forty years, yet I am singled out as a Canadian. I am singled out not by my accent as that is a mish-mash, not by passport as I benefit from dual nationality, not by the hue of my skin, not by my religion, or dress. I am singled out because like so many Canadians I possess an element of self-defacing pride, compassion, and empathy. It is why we are welcomed around the world. We must not lower ourselves to judging, dismissing or fear-mongering. We should continue to hold out the open hand of acceptance and understanding to those who share our beliefs.

Like any truculent child, the challenges facing the US should be met with thoughtful engagement not revulsion or chastisement. No society is filled with saints.

Great article

...glorious and free. We stand on guard for thee.
