Living in Japan, which enjoys the highest rate of centenrians to population, it is wonderful to see so many retirees working. In Japan you are expected to retire, it is the done thing. However in retirement you are also encouraged to work, though the work may be of a less rewarding status. Recently, on numerous occasions, I have been grateful for the assistance of senior members of society here in Tokyo. As respected citizens, 67+ members control the flow of bicycles, pedestrians, buses and construction machinery in the mad house that is Tokyo.
Can't cross the street... ask the seventy-year-old signalman. Can't find a bus... ask the guide at a store entrance. Can't find your bicycle in the haystack of bicycles... the seventy-year-old parking attendant will no where it is. They may be volunteers, or on a low but respected wage, in either case they are vital.
I have always told my family I do not want to retire from work life, I want to retire to an new life. For me 'from' sounds like a closure, a negative. 'To' is an opportunity, a positive.
