The role of women in Japan, like many countries, is evolving (slowly) and all histories contain both negative and positive aspects. An unshackled and impartial acceptance of the past and vibrant, pursuit of a future, with unfettered equanimity will be a measure of how the Japanese society has evolved.

I believe comparing cultures can be a slippery slope as comparison is the thief of contentment.
